Royal Ascot: A Partnership in Elegance and Innovation

For over two decades, GL events UK has worked with Ascot Racecourse to curate temporary infrastructure solutions, providing a range of bespoke, premium facilities for visitors, owners, trainers, and dignitaries from the Royal Family.

During this time we’ve consistently delivered high quality temporary structures, tiered seating, grandstands, and supporting event infrastructure for key race dates, including Royal Ascot. 

Royal Ascot attracts over 300,000 visitors each year, necessitating a range of facilities such as hospitality, bars and catering areas, ticket offices, bathrooms, and merchandise stalls. 

Additional seating is also required, allowing each attendee a perfect view of the course. 

All temporary infrastructure needs to be planned to allow for the complexity of the site and the geography of the racecourse.

Since the start of our partnership with Ascot Racecourse, we have provided a huge array of structures, from retail tents and event administration pagodas, to beautiful and luxurious restaurants and bars in the Royal Enclosure Gardens, while our seating team have installed up to 3,000 additional temporary seats at the racecourse. 

To maintain our exceptional standards, each year, a dedicated GL events project delivery team remains on site throughout the race season, working closely with the client to ensure the highest levels of style, finish and quality, befitting of Royal Ascot.

For 2022, GL events UK designed a blend of Absolute Apex and Ultimate structures, embodying elegance and style. 

Highlights included the impressive 15m x 20m Dorchester Grill and a 6m x 6m Lavender Courtyard hospitality suite. Four Multi-Deck structures were installed, including the 15m x 45m Garick and Whites, 15m x 45m Wyndhams, 12m x 40m Turf and Norfolk, and Holyrood, and 15m x 20m Pavilion Lawn 1768. The total area of the infrastructures spanned across 7,430 square meters.

Working to deliver the best possible solution for the client, our team incorporated innovative, custom modifications to accommodate mature trees on site. Two structures, including one multi-deck, were even constructed around embedded trees.

Over the years, our seating team have supplied temporary grandstands in the Royal Enclosure, in front of the racecourse’s permanent main grandstand and in other areas of the course.  

Each seating solution is tailored to allow for additional features, such as flagpoles, or space for a temporary cashpoint. Additional interior fit out has also been provided, including power, lighting and air conditioning for the structures in previous years, as well as a vast range of ancillary items, including fire alarms, timber cladding, staircases, handrails, picket fencing and decking, ensuring a seamless event experience. 

Each year, the GL events UK team combine their expertise and creativity to address the intricate challenges of the event venue and racecourse geography, showcasing innovative solutions that elevate the guest experience at Ascot. 

While the event is steeped in tradition, we have enjoyed many opportunities to innovate during Royal Ascot, re-designing our bespoke multi-deck hospitality facility year on year, to make a fresh and impactful lasting impression and set new benchmarks in quality and impact within the events industry.
